What the finder includes

The directory combines 948 Australian OpenStreetMap records with 31 additional Brisbane City Council off-leash areas. It covers every state and territory. Council and park-authority research adds facility details, practical visiting notes and source links to selected listings.

Where a map feature has no verified suburb, Tails Out labels the nearest postcode locality as an estimate rather than presenting it as a confirmed address.

How facilities are checked

Open “Facility details & sources” on a park card to see the evidence for each added facility. Council information takes priority when it explicitly contradicts a map tag, including partly fenced or unfenced areas. A source-review date records when we checked the published information, not an on-site inspection.

Brisbane dog-area records are matched to map locations using council boundaries or a distance of less than 60 metres. Uncertain matches are held back. Drinking fountains are included only when they share the council park number and are within 200 metres of the dog-area point. Nearby toilets must match the park name and be within 250 metres. Distances are straight-line estimates, not walking routes; these facilities may be outside the enclosure. Parking is included only when recorded in the matched toilet entry or an official park page.

Shade, toilets, parking and water can refer to the surrounding reserve. Each detail explains that distinction where known. Small-dog zones require a specific source; a generic dog park is not enough. Unknown facilities are not counted as present or absent.

The buttons show results matching all selected facilities, together with the current location search and state. Grey facility buttons have no recorded matches for that combination. “Clear facilities only” keeps your location search.

Sources and attribution

Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence. Brisbane facility information is sourced from Brisbane City Council dog off-leash areas, park drinking fountains and public toilet data. Toilet records originate from the National Public Toilet Map.

For current council listings in Western Sydney, visitors can also check the Blacktown City Council off-leash parks directory. Council rules and on-site signs take priority if information has changed.

Additional park details are linked directly to Hornsby Shire Council, Greater Sydney Parklands, City of Kingston, City of Charles Sturt, City of Hobart, City of Melville, City of Darwin and the ACT Government on the relevant cards. Coverage is uneven: listings without official facility notes retain their original map information. This is a dated research update, not a live closure feed.

What the finder cannot promise

A map record is a useful starting point, not permission to let a dog off lead. Council rules, timed access, seasonal wildlife protections, maintenance closures and on-site signs can change after an import. A facility that is not tagged may still exist, and a facility shown in the data may later be unavailable.

Always carry a lead, follow the signs at the location and check the relevant council when a rule matters to your visit.

How corrections work

Every result includes its OpenStreetMap source so the underlying public record can be inspected. If a place is missing or a mapped fact has changed, the fastest verifiable correction is through OpenStreetMap's map correction guide. Changes are reviewed through future data imports rather than silently altering the source on this website.

How the site will earn money

Tails Out is designed to remain free to search. Future revenue may include clearly labelled advertising, sponsored destination guides, relevant affiliate links and paid placements from local pet businesses. Payment will not turn an ordinary listing into a false recommendation or change the underlying park data. Sponsored or affiliate content will be labelled where it appears.
